2020 HFD Awards Night

Here is where you will find out a little about our current Firefighters;
It was approximately 2008 when the late Tim Thibault had tried to get all the active members of the fire department to write a brief introduction about themselves. He asked for just a few lines describing them, their interests, their families and what brought them to want to be firefighters. Well Tim, perhaps your efforts were about 10 years too early. Tim was very interested in computers and websites and knew more about them than most of us at the time. I talked to Marina and told her that we were going to take another run at it in commemoration of Tim. She was excited to hear that we would make this effort in his honour. Social media has gotten to be more common now and things like Face book pages have gotten us thinking differently. So we are going to try it again for you, Tim.

  • My Hobbies include; Gardening, my dogs, Son(Zander) and Nephews (Conner, Carter, Noah), Gaming, Motorcycling, Wrestling, Video editing, Website design.
  •  My father, Norbert LeBlanc, served on the Humboldt Fire Department for 31 years, and 22 of those years were as Fire Chief.  I remember as a young boy, seeing my dad fighting fires like the Main Street fire and the Legion fire.  I remember him helping people who had been in accidents and even helping to find people who went missing.  Not only was he a hero to me because he was my dad, he was a hero to me because he was one of the fire fighters.  He was the type of hero that ran into danger while everyone else ran away.  He ran in with his whole team of heroes, and stopped the danger and saved the victims.  I thought I was a special kid, because my dad was a Fire Fighter, and not every kid got to say that.  The idea of being a hero is why I wanted to be a fire fighter as a kid.
  • Marcel LeBlanc continued;
  •  Dad explained to me that everyone has strengths and weakness, and so do fire fighters. Some fire fighters are good at working on ladders, some are good on the nozzle, some good in a SCBA, some good at working the pump, some are good at calming the victim, and some are good at training.  But no fire fighter is good at all these skills, and must understand their own weakness.   He taught me that the fire department is a team, and that team is the reason that fire fighters are able to help so many people in so many different situations. The team is able to show all of its strength, while each member is covering each others’ weakness.  The fire department is a team, and with a team comes camaraderie.  To be part of the team is why I wanted to be a fire fighter as a teen.
  • I learned over the years from him, that helping people was one of the most important things that you could do.  Dad taught me that eventually everyone will need help, and that we should never show bias toward that help.  People hear about the big story fires and accidents, but most of the calls are false alarms, nuisance alarms and small situations that aren’t necessarily emergencies. He taught me that the person who made these calls were looking for peace of mind.  It didn’t matter if it was a structure fire, an accident on the highway, or a carbon dioxide or smoke alarm malfunction, the person who called is looking for a team of heroes that will come put out the fire, help those in the crash, or replace the batteries and let them know that everything is alright and safe.  Giving safety and peace of mind to my community is why I wanted to be a fire fighter as an adult.
  • Becoming a fire fighter on the Humboldt Fire Department has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  The sense of accomplishment, camaraderie and excitement is something that I carry with me every day.  Whether I’m running the pump to help put out a fire, or using the jaws of life to help a victim out of a car, or changing the battery in an alarm, I’m proud that I can bring peace of mind to a person in need. I know that even if we are developing a new ice rescue technique I’m building relationships with people that will take care of me when I need help.  I’m proud to be a fire fighter, and I hope I make the little boy that watched his dad save Main Street proud, as well as his dad and son too.
